Privacy Policy

How we handle your information.

Last updated 1 August 2026 · Criterion Digital · ABN 35 783 747 175 · Melbourne, VIC

Who this policy covers

This policy explains how Criterion Digital ("Criterion", "we", "us") collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information through criteriondigital.com.au and in the course of providing our services — websites, paid advertising management, tracking and analytics, our client CRM, and appointment-setting.

If you're a visitor to this website or you've submitted an enquiry through it, this policy tells you what we do with your information. If you're a client, a separate services agreement governs our relationship, and this policy explains the technical and privacy side of it. If you're a customer of one of our clients, see "If you're a client's customer" below.

What we collect

When you submit the enquiry form on this site, we collect what you enter: your name, email, phone number, business name, suburb and postcode, answers about your business and goals, your preferred call time, and anything you write in the notes field.

We also automatically collect attribution data so we know which ad or channel brought you here — things like Google and Meta click identifiers (gclid, fbclid), UTM parameters, the page you landed on, and how long you spent on the form before submitting. Some of this is stored in your browser (localStorage) for up to 90 days so that if you come back and enquire later, we can still tell which campaign originally reached you.

Standard technical data is also collected automatically by our hosting and analytics providers — IP address, browser type, device type, and general usage data.

How we use it

  • To respond to your enquiry and, if you become a client, to deliver our services.
  • To measure which ads and campaigns are actually working, including sending conversion events (such as "enquiry submitted" or "job booked") back to Google and Meta via their conversion APIs. This may include sending a hashed (encrypted, non-reversible) version of your email or phone number to those platforms for ad-matching purposes, in line with Google's and Meta's own privacy terms.
  • To improve this website — we run ongoing A/B tests and use session analytics to see where the page could work better.
  • To contact you about your enquiry, including by phone. If you enquire with us, a call may be placed to the number you provide, and that call may be recorded and transcribed for quality, training and follow-up purposes.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your information. We do share it with the service providers that make the site and our systems work, including:

  • Netlify — our website hosting provider, which processes form submissions and site traffic.
  • Google and Meta — for advertising and conversion tracking, as described above.
  • Our CRM and telephony/voice providers — used to store enquiry records, place and record calls, and manage follow-up.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Criterion, our clients, or the public.

If you're a client's customer

Some of our clients use our smart CRM to manage their own customers — storing quotes, invoices, job photos, notes and communication history. If you're the customer of a Criterion client, your information in that system is collected and controlled by that business, not by Criterion directly. We process it on their behalf, under the same obligations of care described in this policy. Requests about that data should go to the business you engaged, though we're happy to help facilitate it.

Cookies and tracking

This site uses browser storage to remember ad attribution details (see above) and standard analytics cookies/pixels from Google and Meta to measure ad performance. You can clear these at any time through your browser settings; doing so may mean a later enquiry isn't credited to the original ad that brought you here, but it won't affect your ability to use the site or submit a form.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry and client data for as long as it's needed to provide our services, meet legal and accounting obligations (including tax record-keeping), and maintain a reasonable business record. If you ask us to delete your information and we have no legal or legitimate business reason to retain it, we will.

Your rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. To do any of these, email james@criteriondigital.com.au and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe, generally within 30 days.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect the information we hold, including relying on reputable providers (Netlify, Google, Meta and our CRM/telephony vendors) who maintain their own security standards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as our services change. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Continued use of this site after a change means you accept the updated policy.

Note: this policy is a working draft written to reflect what this website and service actually do. It is not legal advice. Before relying on it publicly, it's worth having a solicitor review it against the Australian Privacy Principles and your specific obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) — small business exemptions can be nuanced, and a short paid review is cheap insurance against getting it wrong.
